Our Values: Centering BIPOC and LGBTQ+ Survivors & Sex Workers

As the first survivor-led, black-led, and queer-led nonprofit organization in NJ, we strive to create intentional safe spaces for marginalized survivors of trafficking and sex workers, particularly Black, Indigenous, People of Color, and LGBTQ+ individuals.

Racial Equity in the survivor community:

Will look like black and brown bodies no longer being seen as sexual commodities within our larger society, and the notion that we are deserving of the violence and trauma that we frequently endure is eliminated.

YAMT has a vision of seeing mental health, education, and financial wellness as no longer barriers to care when exiting our exploitative situations.

This means that as an organization, we are not only trying to change the way that folx see survivors in these spaces, but we are also pushing for folx to see black and brown individuals as deserving of success and care in larger systems of care.

Inclusion of Queer Voices in the survivor community

LGBTQ+ survivors of trafficking and exploitation are often not included in the conversations when fighting for care and support within the anti-trafficking movement.

Many organizations shy away from supporting LGBTQ+ individuals impacted by the commercial sex industry due to a lack of understanding and the unfortunate heteronormative narrative that exists throughout the anti-trafficking movement.

YAMT is different and will continue to advocate for and alongside LGBTQ+ survivors when it comes to gaining access to equitable, safe, and affirmative care.

Our organization is open to survivors from all gender identities and sexual orientations

Sex Workers Rights

YAMT began expanding our support to sex workers and those who identify as consensually engaging in the sex trade in 2023 after seeing an increase in services in our community.

We cannot fight for the rights of survivors without fighting for the rights and voices of sex workers.

YAMT’s team continues to grow and is currently a blend of both sex workers and survivors of trafficking..
