Webinar Description: Join Dr. Shobana Powell, DSW, LCSW as she discusses ethical considerations when working with individuals impacted by the commercial sex industry, with a focus on those from BIPOC and 2SLGBTQIA+ communities.  This webinar will address the intersection of power dynamics and cultural norms, and how they may present in a therapeutic relationship, such as through dual relationships, conflicts of interest, gift giving and more.  Dr. Powell will also address why clinicians may struggle with setting ethical boundaries and how to access support.

About the Presenter

Dr. Shobana Powell, DSW, LCSW is the CEO & Founder of Shobana Powell Consulting, a consulting firm consisting of national clinical, legal, and lived experience experts who provide training and technical assistance on the intersection of gender-based violence and systemic oppression. Her work focuses on lived experience inclusion, anti-oppression, and vicarious resilience. Dr. Powell is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who has provided child and adult trauma therapy, conducted court-ordered forensic mental health and human trafficking evaluations, and developed and led programs around the country that serve those impacted by the commercial sex industry. She holds Bachelor's degrees in Social Work and Spanish from New York University, a Master’s degree in Social Work from Columbia University, and a Doctorate in Social Work and Social Innovation from the University of Southern California.
