A little about me:

My name is Cristian Eduardo, I was raised and born in Cuautla, Morelos in Mexico. I am a survivor of International and Domestic Sex & Labor Trafficking. I am an advocate for immigrants and LGBTQ+ rights, and a consultant in the Anti-Trafficking Field. I am serving different state and national Survivor Advisory Boards. I am a Mechanical Engineering Student at the City College of New York. Some of my hobbies are reading manga, watching anime, and playing video games.

What peer mentor relationships do you thrive in?

Relationships where respect, safety, and honesty at are the forefront. I am a human being, I am not perfect and that is OK. Healthy boundaries are very important and open communication, it is fine to disagree. Very focus on brainstorming and solutions. the secret is to do not stop, even the smallest step makes a difference.

What made you become a peer mentor?

After my trafficking experience I was by myself navigating a world that did not understand my trafficking experience, and it was a really hard and dark part of my life. I do not want other survivors to feel isolated and alone, I want other survivors to thrive at their own pace and feeling supported and loved.

What area of support would be most aligned with your work with mentees?

› Community Resource Navigation

› Job Preparation/ Support

› Education

› Emotional Skill Building

› Providing a listening ear

› Legal Resources

How do you take care of yourself when helping others?

I created space and time for myself. I am receiving weekly counseling, and I am taking my medication for anxiety, depression and HIV. I really enjoy parting and doing karaoke around the people who support, love and take care of themselves and me.
